Plastic litters our beaches, destroys landscapes, clogs our streams and landfills, injures marine life, and disrupts human safety. The exponential increase of plastic pollution poses a major threat to the survival of our planet, which is why Earth Day 2018 is dedicated to providing the information and inspiration needed to change our attitude and behavior about plastics.

The first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, brought 20 million Americans together and is credited with launching the modern environmental movement. In celebration of this year’s festivities, we decided to take a closer look at the devastating effects of plastic, and Earth Day Network’s plan to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day in 2020.
