Most restaurants strive to give guests an incredible eating experience, complete with impeccable service, lovely atmosphere, and of course, top-notch food. Those who succeed in this venture hope to receive one of the most prestigious awards in the industry – a Michelin star.

French tire company Michelin has published their annual restaurant guides for more than a century, including the highly coveted star rankings. Gaining or losing a star can have a huge impact on the success of a restaurant. The Michelin Guide also awards ‘rising stars,’ an indication that a restaurant has the potential to qualify for a star or an additional star.

The 2018 winners were recently announced. We decided to take a look at the numbers.
