SpaceX really wants us to be able to reuse spacecraft in the near future. In fact, being able to reuse stuff it sends into space is a huge part of SpaceX’s business plan. They hope to dramatically reduce the price of spaceflight by creating hardware that can be used more than once.
In July, a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft completed the first ever re-flight to and from the International Space Station, before splashing down in the Pacific Ocean. It is now the only cargo craft that can return in one piece from the space station, putting us one step closer to solving one of space exploration’s biggest challenges.
