The winners of the Global Editors Network’s (GEN) fifth-annual Data Journalism Awards were announced during a special ceremony and gala dinner on 16 June 2016 at the Vienna City Hall in Austria.
The DJA 2016 competition received 471 projects from over 50 countries, representing the five continents. The final 11 winners of this year’s awards were given prizes worth more than $1,000 each.
The Data Journalism Awards are the first international awards honoring outstanding work in the field of data journalism around the world. Launched in 2012, the competition is organized by the GEN, with support from the Google News Labs and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
Global newspapers, magazines, and digital media outlets submitted some really amazing projects. Enjoy the incredible winning entries below.

Public Choice Award – Public Radio International
Honorable Mention: Open Data – #breathe, IndiaSpend
