How to navigate across Infogram 200+ maps like a Pro

23.02.2015 by roberts

There are over 200 maps available on Infogram. That’s right! You can compare election results, the most popular child names or average incomes across your country’s regions with Infogram Pro in no time.

You can show the number of judgements the European Human Rights Court issued per European country, like Infogram Ambassador Ajdin Perco did using the map of Europe. Infogram Ambassador Sanjit Oberai, choose to use the map of India comparing wheat production across states and showing a heatmap of the states where children with HIV and AIDS live.

It’s easy to do with Infogram. Watch the step-by-step demonstration on the webinar replay or follow these basic steps:

Upgrade to Pro

You can access 200+ regional maps only as a Pro or Whitelabel user. As a free user, you can still compare countries on the world map, which is also very useful.

Create an infogram

Once you log in as a Pro user,  click “Create” and choose one of the templates. Hit the “Use design” button and the template with dummy data will open. Just double-click on each item to edit it, or delete an element, by pressing the “Delete” icon on the upper-left corner of a chart or text element.

Double-click on the map to edit it. You can paste or upload your data from another spreadsheet or just edit it in the Infogram spreadsheet. Choose regions by name, edit their numeric value, group and label. Coordinates are assigned to each region automatically.

Turn your map into a heat map

If you take a closer look, you’ll notice the “Heatmap” radio button in the control bar above the spreadsheet.   Set it to on to turn your map into a heat map. You can also change the area colour-fills into points by turning the “Points” control on. Take some time to play around with the controls and find the best version of your map.

Once you are done the last thing to do is to download it for print or publish it online. With Infogram Pro you can share your infographic with a private link, e-mail it y or set a password. Watch the webinar to learn more.

Why choose Infogram over other solutions?

“The reason I used Infogram for this story was first, because it looks nice on the website,” tells Ajdin – a business journalist and activist from Bosnia and Herzegovina, “Secondly, it was quite easy to do the infographic and embed it on the website.” The graphic was also well received on social media, according to Ajdin.

“What I also like about Infogram is that maps are customised for the Indian audience. Here in India we have an issue with Cashmir. Infogram  has two versions of Indian maps – one for the world audience, and the other for the Indian audience. This is very important for us,” says Sanjit – the data journalist from New Delhi.
