It’s been 10 years since the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the biggest oil spill in US history and one of the worst environmental disasters in the world. 

Coastal communities are still dealing with the effects of what happened a decade ago when 4.9 million barrels (~206 million gallons) of crude oil poured into the Gulf of Mexico. It is estimated that the ultimate costs of the disastrous oil spill amounted to $145.93 billion.
