International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world on May 12 to mark the contributions that nurses make to society. This year, we witness in real time the pivotal role healthcare workers play in managing epidemics like the coronavirus. 

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the global nursing workforce is 27.9 million, which means that nursing is by far the largest occupational group in the health sector. 

The reason why we celebrate International Nurses Day on May 12 is related to the anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. And who would’ve thought that Nightingale was actually highly skilled in… data visualization, too.
